Winter Bulk Up Is Coming Along

Posted: December 31, 2013 in Uncategorized

I weighed in at 171 this morning!  That is my heaviest in a LONG time.

My plan this year was to get up to around 175, and then I will cut down to the high 150’s for the summer.

I am going to the World Cup in Brazil in June, so that is when I planning on being in my best shape.

It feels good to put on a little extra size, and I bench pressed 305 pretty easy today, but I am definitely starting to see some bodyfat.

Another month and half of eating like a pig, and then I need to get serious.

I am actually looking forward to going back to work to get into my schedule.

Good luck!

I am 34 Years Old Today!!!

I am starting to feel old!

Actually that’s not true, physically I really don’t feel any difference since College.

My long distance running time is about the same, with weight lifting I am probably stronger, and my diet is definitely a lot better. I think I just don’t recover as quickly.

I am off from work until Jan 2, so hopefully next week I am get back into it hard, this week was a disaster.

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Going to do a nice 3 mile run tomorrow, and then pig out.

I am off the whole rest of the week from work, and I plan on resting and getting in a couple of hard training days in before the New Year.

2014 should be an interesting year.  I am booked for St Patricks Day in Dublin, and also planning to go to Brazil for the World Cup.

But most importantly, I want to start spending some time on this blog!

I like Christmas, but it is killing my diet and training.

During this this work week I had 3 parties, and I had to miss one day of weights and two days of cardio.

It is supposed to be almost 70! degrees in NYC tomorrow, and I plan on running HARD.  I need to take advantage of the small opportunities I have to get some hard training sessions in.

After Jan 1, it’s back to my full regular training session.

I can’t wait.

I forgot how hard winter running in NYC is, BUT I am going to force myself to stay active outside this season.

Going to try to stick to a plan of 2 days during the week, and possibly both weekends days.  I like running on the weekends because I can get some daylight time in.

What is everyone else doing this winter?

Sprinting Vs Long Distance

Posted: December 11, 2013 in Uncategorized

I’ve noticed this weird thing about my body recently; I can almost run the same long distance times as I did in College, but for short distance I am as slow as a snail.

So what I have decided to do this year is to add some short and middle distance sprints.

The last couple workouts I have been adding 400 meter sprints (one time around the track) runs to my cardio, and I am feeling a massive difference.

Not only is the fat flying off my body, but all types of different muscle area’s are in pain.

I highly recommend that all long distance runners add some speed work to their training.  Long distance is easy when you get older, it is the speed that you need to preserve!

I try not to put on too much fat in the winter, and to accomplish this I will like to pick a good race to train for.

Does anyone have any recommendations?  I was looking at some interesting races in Virginia Beach, and it should be a lot warmer than NYC.

I was also considering doing another powerlifting competition, but I’ll see how my training is going.  Running races are a lot easier than powerlifting competitions.

Good Luck!
