Well, if you are wondering why I havent posted about my first full powerlifting meet in over 10 years, it is because it was a disaster.

I warmed up, feeling good, with 135, 225 and 275 before coming out for a “token’ 305 lbs.

What happened next was like a bad nitemare. I took the weight off the rack, felt light. I was slightly anxious from the crowd watching.

I remember going down fine, coming up slightly and all of a sudden my legs gave out.

All I remember is my legs giving away and people screaming while two guys ran over to help me stand.

Then the pain started.

It’s hard to explain what the pain felt like.  It wasnt a 10, more like an 8 and if anything, felt like one the worst “stinging” pains I ever had.

I couldn’t walk by myself, but I had two guys pace me back and forth in the back of the gym to work out the pain.  It actually felt better to walk around but eventually they made me sit down and apply large ice bags.

That’s when the pain hurt pretty bad.  I was able to handle it, but I was shaking pretty bad from the trama of everything.

After about 30-45 minutes I got my wife to pull up the car and the same 2 guys ( med students I believe) lifted me into the car.

I felt a little better on the way home, the pain went down to maybe a 6.5.  The hard part was getting out of the car. I didnt know the extent of my injuries at that point and I almost fell to the floor in the middle of the street.

Eventually my brother in law helped me walk into my apartment and down the stairs to my bed.

Once I got into the bed, I actually felt ok. The pain was down to a 4.5 and I slept for about 2 hours.

I usually never go to doctors, but I listened to my brother in law and went the next day. This injury looked serious.

I took a quick xray and the doctor said right away it looked like a double quad tear and they had ‘ never seen two pulled quads like that before, except for a major car crash”.

So now I am scheduled for surgery Wendsday to reattach my ligaments.  I have “sorta” gotten used to it. I can walk when my legs are completely locked and I been using crutches around the house and outside.

I wouldn’t be so horrible if I didn’t have a 2 year old and a 4 month old at home that want my attention 24/7.  I think my son has jumped on my legs already at least 25x. The good news is he forces me to stretch my legs every 30 minutes by playing with him

So, what does the future hold for me?

I think squatting is done. I am going to be 41 years old and I dont get paid for this shit.  Maybe I can deadlift again, but that will be a year away at least.

According to the doctor some patients come back to normal, it just takes several months to completely heal.  Then again, I blew both quads, not just one.

Wish me luck, I might start a daily vlog of my recovery.

I am not gonna lie, my life is not very exciting right now.

Besides going to work and running a small side business; my life is pretty uneventful.

As of last week, I now have 2 kids under 3 years and now my priorities have changed.

My 30’s started off with a bang; I went to Dublin for St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break in South Padre, Texas, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Sweden, Estonia, etc.

But now my life is pretty limited: I work, work out and take care of my kids.

But that will change.  I still have a bucket list of trips that I want to accomplish, such as Oktoberfest in Germany, but unfortunately they are on a temporary hold.

If I had to predict, I am around 45% done with my life.

All my grandparents lived to 80 years old and my parents are still alive in their early 70s.

I would “think” I should cruise to at least 80 years old, but nothing is guaranteed in life.

Let’s assume that I am 50% done with my life, how do I want to spend the next 25%?

A)  Accumulate assets rapidly. Right now I am on pace to retire, but I would like to accelerate that. The key for me here would be to be more entrepreneurial.

For starters, we are looking to purchase our first home in the Spring.

B) Eat cleaner. If you eat bad food over an extended number of years, you will get heart disease. I already feel like my workouts are on point, so the only thing left is to eat cleaner.

C) Travel more. Traveling is the key to life and there are so many places I would like to see that I cant even count.

So, what about the final 25% of my life? Age 65+?

A) Be able to do whatever I like without regard to my financials. Definitely considering traveling in an RV.

B) Spend time with my children.

C) Continue with my hobbies and do only what I enjoy.

I know this might sound like an excuse, but my 2-year old is killing my training.

I went for a run today, on fathers day, and my legs were killing me.

Besides the lack of free time, its impossible to chase a little boy around for 4 hours and then go for a run.

Let me review my week:

Monday: work, gym at lunch, park at night.

Tuesday: work, gym at lunch, treadmill after work and then park again.

Wednesday: work, no gym, no park.

Thursday: work, gym at lunch, treadmill after work.

Friday: work, gym at lunch, park after work, drinking at brother in laws house.

Saturday: hiking with son. Park in the pm.

Sunday: 3 mile run (felt like death)

This was a tough week, along with pulling 12 hour fasts at work to cut down in bodyweight.

The dieting is tougher too. As I sit here and type, my son is eating a grill cheese sandwich.

Whatever he doesnt finish, I always end up eating.

Overall, I dont want to make excuses, but I cant compare it to when I was 30 years old and able to sleep for 13 hours.

But dont worry, I plan on killing it this week.

Finally, Some Good News

Imagine that your doctor told you that you had 20 years left to live?

Would you quit your job?

Would you travel more?

Would you get married or divorced?

I think I know what I would do.  I would buy an R.V. and travel throughout the United States for several years.

In my R.V. I would pack a squat rack, bench press and up to 600 lb’s in weights.  Although it’s going to kill my gas mileage, I would be able to set up a base at different sites and powerlift.

For my cardio, well that’s easy.  I can run anywhere in the great outdoors, or alongside the truck as my wife drives.

After several years traveling throughout the United States, I would like to do the same in Europe.  Travel throughout the different counties with my 600 lb’s of weights and maybe take one or two side-excursions to Asia, most likely Japan and one other country.

Along with stopping at various churches and praying for my afterlife, I will publish two books about my travels and then I am ready to die.

So what would you plan on doing?

Or more importantly, what are you doing now?

  • Do you workout 5-6X a week?
  • Do you lift heavy to moderate weights?
  • Do you add cardio to your routine including sprint training?

Also, how is your diet?

  • Do you eat clean?
  • Do you have a visible 6-pack for part of the year?
  • Do you take any recreationale drugs?
  • Do you drink more than 20 beers a week?
  • Do you have high blood pressure or cholesterol and need medication to lower it?

WAKE UP STUPID!

Your life expectancy is probably only 20 years right now.

Travel…

Exercise…

Run…

Eat right..

Pray…

And enjoy your life…

Lift Heavy/Run Fast

 

I have to be honest with myself. I am a 38-year old man, and there is a good chance that I will never become a billionaire.

I SHOULD become a millionaire. Not necessarily a million dollars in salary, but I should eventually hit one million dollars in liquid assets at some point in my life.

Not rich, but solid all-American middle class.

But why should I give up? I am a super competitive guy, but I am also realistic.

How can I possibly compete with a BILLIONAIRE?

Two words: BODYBUILDING and VACATIONS

VACATION:

BODYBUILDING:

I work out either 6 or 7 days a week and I also eat a healthy diet. I haven’t met too many people in this world who can beat my 6-pack every summer.

“BODYBUILDING IS ONE OF THE MOST FAIR SPORTS IN THE WORLD”.

Of course genetics play a large role in bodybuilding, but overall, you get back what you put in.

You can have the most expensive personal trainer and the most expensive steroids available, and you probably still won’t beat me.

Rich or poor, bodybuilding brings people together.

Conclusion: So what can a billionaire do that I can’t?

I am unable to fly on a private plane, I don’t even fly first class.
I am unable to afford very expensive hotels or 5-star restaurants
I don’t have access to world leaders

The only way I can compete with a billionaire is by doing more life EVENTS.

When I am dying in the hospital and the priest comes in the room, I want him to slap me five and say “You Lived a Good Life!”
