There are only two options in life; either you are religious and believe in some type spiritual power or you believe that when you die, you die.

If you go the religious route, then you will focus solely on your spiritual side and make it your number one focus in life.

If you find yourself in the latter category, then you will live like there is no tomorrow.  Not that you want to die, but you don’t need to “hold back” on anything in life.

I personally feel that 98% of the population fits within the middle of each.

Nobody is 100% dedicated to anything, but the few people that can come close, can be extremely successful.

The Pope was most likely very dedicated.  The same can be said for Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bill Gates.

When it comes to the gym; unfortunately most people are also in the 98% middle ground.  In other words, they don’t really make any progress.

For this winter bulk up, I have come to the conclusion that life is too short to mess around.

I am either lifting weights, or I am not.  I am either getting strong or I am not.

You are either running faster or you are not.

You are either burning off body fat or you are not.

When you start viewing life in absolutes, you can remove the emotional bullshit and stigma’s attached and accelerate to your goals.

So far this year I am already close to a 500lb deadlift and a 300lb bench press.  Since I have decided to stop messing around, I am almost at my St Patrick’s day goals months ahead of schedule.

Next year, I also plan on adding the same focus on other area’s of life.  Whether it is getting stronger, saving $20K, starting a new business or finding a new job.

Stop bullshitting and get it done.

There is no time to mess around.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not comparing my entire physique to the king, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I am just saying that my abs are better.

Even without steroids, supplements or a strong tan, I still beat Arnold on abs.  Take a look at the belly buttons, it’s not even close.

Everyone has certain body parts that are genetically better than others.  Some people have biceps that peak into mountains, while others like myself, have long biceps that grow out.

Genetics plays a large role in how your body develops, and luckily for me, when I am in good shape I develop really good-looking abs.

Since I have always been natural, I also have to be ultra strict with my diet, cardio and I need to be consistent in the gym.

You can’t fake good-looking abs.  Even if you take steroids, if you aren’t training hard or dieting correctly, your abs aren’t going to look right.  Most of the top athletes that you will see competing in the Mr. Olympia won’t have good abs and in my opinion, it’s hurting the sport.

So Arnold might beat me in calves, arms, chest and back.  But, I take him out in the abdominal department.

For this picture above, I cut down from 180 lbs in the winter to 150 lbs by the middle of August.  My routine was 4 days a week with weights and another 3 days of outside cardio.

Recently, it has been hard to get my workouts in.  I haven’t really missed any days, but I’ve been very overtired between working two jobs and having an infant at home.

But, no excuses.

My routine this Spring has been weights 4x a week at lunch, with cardio 2x after work and one extra cardio day on the weekend.

Because I do not have a ton of time to train, especially after work, I have been using the time I do have to train INTENSELY.

For my 2 cardio sessions during the week, I only train for 30 minutes each.

Basically, I have been running straight to the gym as soon as I get out of work, strip down in 3 minutes and then run as hard as I can for 20 minutes.  Afterwards,  I throw my clothes back on, grab my work bag and run straight to my ferry.

The results have been great so far!  Since I don’t have a lot of time, I don’t screw around.

Yesterday I ran a half mile at a 6:22 pace, followed by another half mile at a 7:15 pace,  and kept going using faster and slower intervals until I reached 3 miles.  By the end of the workout I was drenched with sweat.

I’m really amazed that some people still don’t work out.  I have a wife and a one-month old son and the last thing I need is to die early because I am too lazy to exercise.

Only 30 minutes a day can make a ton of difference.

Even if you don’t want to run, add 30 minutes of weight lifting

30 minutes of walking

30 minutes of biking

Skip dinner once in a while and cut some pounds.

There are no excuses…

Hello everyone!

We are now into mid-April and it is officially cut time for the summer.  If you haven’t started dieting and introducing cardio into your workouts yet, you better start as soon as possible.

Today, I weighed in at 165 lbs after hitting a peak of 178 in February.  I am slightly behind my goal, but I still have a good chance of hitting the low 150’s by late July.

I am trying to avoid some of the long slow-distance running this year and instead I am trying to use more sprinting and real sports, ex: basketball, tennis.

Bodybuilding is not a complicated sport and losing and gaining weight is even less complicated.  I gain and lose 20-25 lbs every single year and I’m surprised that so many people struggle with it.

You can also burn fat or get cut in only 3 days if you want to.

I will show you the easiest way to guarantee that you burn fat; FASTING.

Try this routine out:

  • Saturday: Cardio in the morning (sports or running), no food until dinner.
  • Sunday: Cardio in the morning (sports or running), no food until dinner.
  • Monday: No food until lunch (assuming you are at work)

 

Use this method and I can GUARANTEE that you will burn off fat. It’s almost impossible that you wouldn’t.

I have been using fasting for years and it works great for me.

To be fair, I don’t have anything against people using steroids.  I could really care less.

But, I am not going to lie, I do get a kick out of out lifting them in the gym or showing up more ripped at the beach.

The sad reality is that many people never learn the “basics”, so despite the amount of chemical they ingest, they can still be beaten on a regular basis.

I’ve noticed that steroids seem to really help in some area’s and not so much in others. They appear to really help in bench and shoulder presses.

Not so much in dead lifts and squats. I don’t care how many steroids you take, you aren’t going to dead lift 500 for 6 reps at 165 lbs unless you are training hard.  And if your squat technique isn’t perfect, you aren’t going to put up any heavy numbers.

But how do you beat them in looks?

This is tricky.  You probably aren’t going to be able to get as big and you probably can’t get as cut.

Your skin will also never get paper thin.  But that good be a good thing.

The only way to beat a steroid user in a bodybuilding competition is to be super strict with your diet, consistent in your workouts and persistent in your cardio.

It can be done.

Lets face it; if you don’t learn how to diet, your abs will always look bad, steroids or not.

It might even look worst with steroids.  There is nothing worse looking than a lumpy steroid gut.  This only happens when someone starts to use steroids but doesn’t diet down properly.  It makes the stomach region look lumpy and unnatural.

If body fat percentages are the same, the natural body will always look better.

So, what is your job as a natural lifter? You need to get your body fat down.

Learn the basics

Work on your diet

Be consistent and train hard

And enjoy beating your competition….
